Looking For America in the Wild
I received a brief text message from Sam asking me to post a note saying he was about to take a route through the wilderness of a short section of the Appalachian Trail, and that he will be out of cell phone range with no posts for a short while. He promised to double up his blog entries upon returning to civilization.

Barbara from the Concord area derived this article from our conversation when I was staying with Chris Nielsen. It does great justice to the ambivalence and uncertainty that has always been a part of this walk; I don't know what purpose it will ultimately serve. Much remains up in the air.
